NPUSC Hires Mr. J.R. Shelt as NPHS Principal
New Prairie United Schools (NPUSC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. J.R. Shelt as the next principal of New Prairie High School. Mr. Shelt brings a wealth of experience as a highly successful secondary level English teacher, coach, and administrator. Mr. Shelt is a graduate of Elkhart Central High School and has a bachelor’s degree in English Education from Indiana State University and a masters degree in school administration from Butler University. Mr. Shelt has taught English in Elkhart, Lawrence Township, and most recently at Park Tudor High School. He began his administrative career in Lawrence Township as Asst. Principal at Lawrence Central High School and the Freshman Center principal. Most recently, Mr. Shelt has served as Asst. Principal and Director of Enrollment Management at Park Tudor School, where he also successfully coached the girls’ basketball team and has considerable experience coaching both men’s and women’s basketball.
Mr. Shelt has distinguished himself as an educational leader and has been known to be a significant influence in the lives of many students that stay in touch with him beyond their school experience. Finally, Mr. Shelt has been known as a motivational leader that makes a strong, positive impact on the school culture he is engaged in.
Dr. Paul White, NPUSC Superintendent, stated the following about the opportunity for NPUSC to hire Mr. Shelt, “We are very excited to bring Mr. Shelt to New Prairie and we are confident he is the perfect leader to move New Prairie High School forward. He leads through relationships and positive motivation with great drive to be the best.”
Mr. Shelt stated about the opportunity, “New Prairie High School has a reputation of providing an excellent educational experience for all students. As principal, I will work diligently to continue the development of staff, build relationships with students, and meet the expectations of the community. I am truly honored by this selection.”
