NPUSC Late Start Days

This entry was posted in Uncategorized on by .

Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s),

During the 2019-2020 school year, the New Prairie United School Corporation will continue to  participate in late start arrivals every Wednesday.  In January, NPUSC sent out a survey to teachers and parent(s)/guardians.  The feedback was valuable in making the decision in our approach by providing our teaching staff with more consistent professional development opportunities to better support our students.  Many schools in our area participate in similar concepts and NPUSC is excited to provide this professional development model during the school year.  Below is additional information regarding these late start days.

What days will the students have late starts?

Late starts will begin Wednesday, August 14th and will continue throughout the school year.

What time will school begin on a Late Start Day?

Olive Elementary              8:05 am

NP Middle School            7:50 am

NP High School                8:00 am

Prairie View Elem.           9:15 am

Rolling Prairie Elem.        9:15 am

Will transportation be impacted on Late Start days?

Yes, the buses will be picking students up 45 minutes later on late start days. You may also contact Bruce Lasley at the transportation department at (574) 654-7373 if you have any additional questions.

What if I need to drop off my student at the normal school start time?

You can still drop off students at the normal time if needed on a late start day.  The student(s) can either eat breakfast in the cafeteria or they will be supervised in a gymnasium or school library.

Will there still be the YMCA Latchkey Program on Late Start days?

Yes, the Latchkey Program will still operate as usual on the late start days. If you have any questions regarding the Latchkey Program on those days, please contact Sandy Stefanko (219) 325-9622 and she will be able to answer any additional questions.

What if there is a 2-hour delay on an Late Start Day?

In order to count the instructional day on the school calendar, NPUSC can only use a Late Start OR a Two Hour delay.  NPUSC cannot combine both of these on the same instructional day.  If a two-hour delay should occur on a late start day, then NPUSC will have to cancel the late start and normal two-hour delay schedule will occur.  NPUSC will notify parents of this change through phone, text, and email if this should transpire.

*If you have any questions regarding these late start days, you may contact your building principal or Dr. Carrie Cannon, Assistant Superintendent at (574) 654-7273.
