Minimum Diploma
11 What are the differences between the proposed Minimum Diploma and the current General Diploma? 1. The proposed Minimum Diploma requires Biology 1 for all students.
The Minimum Diploma requires five flex credits in any combination from the following options:
  • Additional courses to extend the career-academic sequence
  • Courses involving workplace learning
    - Career Exploration Internship (new course, available 2004-06)
    - Career Planning and Success Skills (Internship)
    - Business Cooperative Experiences
    - Cooperative Family & Consumer Sciences
    - Industrial Cooperative Training
    - Interdisciplinary Cooperative Education
    - Marketing Field Experience
  • Advanced Career-Technical Education, College Credit (new course, available 2005-06)
  • Additional courses in math, science, language arts, social studies, world languages and/or fine arts

    3. The proposed Minimum Diploma awards a full credit for each semester of Physical Education.
12 Will the Career-Academic Sequence be required for the Minimum Diploma if a student begins pursuing the Minimum Diploma following the 11th grade year? If students pursuing the Core 40 curriculum (enrolled in Core 40 courses) decide to pursue the Minimum Diploma before the end of their 11th grade year, they are required to complete all requirements for the Minimum Diploma including the Career-Academic Sequence.

If students pursuing the Core 40 curriculum (enrolled in Core 40 courses) decided to pursue the Minimum Diploma after their 11th grade year, the Career-Academic Sequence is waived.

Discussion:

1. All students are encouraged to enroll in the Core 40 curriculum for reasons cited in question number 2. The Career-Academic Sequence Waiver allows students who pursue the Core 40 curriculum to switch to the Minimum Diploma curriculum at the end of their 11th grade year to graduate with their class.

2. The Career-Academic Sequence Waiver allows out-of-state students, who transfer to Indiana following the 11th grade year to graduate with their class.
13 Do students still have to take science credits from multiple disciplines? Yes. The four (4) credits of science shall include content from more than one (1) of the major science discipline categories, which are life science, physical science, and earth and space science.
