On May 5, 2013, New Prairie High School students Olivia Ness and Kyle Kenyon competed in the 5th annual Great Lakes High School Chinese Speech Contest at Valparaiso University. Olivia and Kyle competed against 26 other teams from 12 different schools in Indiana and Illinois.

Olivia and Kyle competed in the Level I category which included students with fewer than 2 years of high school Chinese language. Students were formed in groups of 2-3 and they performed conversational dialogues about topics regarding everyday life.

This good-spirited competition was judged by a panel of three Chinese language teachers and distinguished Chinese speakers from area communities. Olivia and Kyle won the 3rd Place Award. This is a fantastic accomplishment considering these students have been studying Chinese for less than one year.

The New Prairie United School Corporation has received its 2011 – 2012 A – F Growth Model grades from the Indiana Department of Education. They hold a special significance because this is the initial state assessment using the A – F criterion. The grades accrued by the all schools and school corporations of Indiana are based on both student performance and student growth. The entire NPUSC school community should be proud of our student performance and remain confident that our “Culture of Excellence” expectations will drive the NPUSC’sefforts to deliver high quality learning experiences for our students…. National College Board's AP Honor Roll

Twenty-one Indiana school districts, including the New Prairie United School Corporation, have been named to the National College Board's 3rd annual AP Honor Roll for their students' strong advanced placement (AP) test scores.

"Indiana is committed to providing high school students opportunities to get them ready for and credit for college, and AP courses do both", State Superintendent Dr. Tony Bennett said.  "I commend these districts for their commitment to ensuring our students have the opportunities and resources necessary to be successful after high school graduation."

The College Board reviewed three years of advanced placement data to determine which schools showed sustained efforts in improving and expanding test performance and college and career readiness among students.

The New Prairie United School Corporation is very proud of this prestigious honor and will continue to offer challenging opportunities to our students.

ISTEP Testing

30 Apr 2013 | 6:31 pm

April 30, 2013 Dear NPUSC Parent / Guardian: Due to a delivery failure on the part of the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) provider, ISTEP+ testing for your child was halted this morning. Students were unable to log onto their assigned digital test site and the decision was made to end testing today after the IDOE provider informed school corporations throughout the state that their server would not be available until at least 12:30 p.m. this afternoon. It is important to remember that the New Prairie United School Corporation was not responsible for this disruption in any manner. Our Administrative Team is meeting to develop a response schedule and our plan is to resume testing tomorrow in the most accommodating environment possible. Our expectation is that the IDOE provider will have corrected the issues that led to this development as they have stated they will. Please contact your building principal or me with any questions. Thank you. Jim Dermody
